The incident occurred on July 14 when a shopkeeper at Terminal 3 of the IGI airport (domestic wing) informed on-duty CISF personnel that an envelope containing Rs 74,190 was missing from his shop, a senior security official said.

The CISF staff immediately logged on to its database in the airport CCTV control room and found that a passenger, identified as one Sachin Gupta, a resident of Raipur in Chhattisgarh, had picked the envelope and proceeded to board a flight to Kathmandu.

"CISF further checked with the airlines about the details of Gupta's movements. Information was obtained that he would return to Delhi from Kathmandu today. Upon landing, he was intercepted and questioned where he admitted to stealing the cash containing envelope," the official said.

Gupta was later handed over to the airport police where the shopkeeper lodged a complaint against him, they said.
