Lok Janshakti Party chief and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan Tuesday hailed the Supreme Court decision to leave the issue of curbing criminalisation of politics to Parliament, and said it has stuck to the division of work among the three pillars of democracy.

The Supreme Court has again backed the "Lakshman rekha", a reference to rules and conventions governing divisions of works, separating the executive, judiciary and legislature, he said in tweets.

"My party and I welcome the Supreme Court's judgement," he said.

The apex court on Tuesday left it to Parliament to "cure the malignancy" of criminalisation of politics by making a law to ensure that persons facing serious criminal cases do not enter the political arena as the "polluted stream of politics" needs to be cleansed.
