"Supreme Court has prescribed detailed guidelines which must be followed by the police while arresting people on any charge. There is a gross violation of these norms and it happens more in case of people from minority communities," he toold reporters.
Paswan was flanked by family members of Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi- arrested by Delhi police for alleged involvement in a terror attack in the capital- and brother of Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui who was murdered in Pune jail where he was lodged on terror charges.
Qateel- an alleged operative of terrorist organisation Indian Mujahideen- was recently killed in Pune's Yerawada central prison.
The LJP chief also demanded suitable amendments in the law to ensure that police forces follow the law while keeping crime or terror accused in their custody.
Nikhat Praveen- wife of Indian engineer Fasih Mohammad who was allegedly arrested in Saudi Arabia recently- was also present during the interaction.
When asked about the Presidential elections race, Paswan said, "We have already said that we will support any candidate selected by the UPA and as far as electing Pranab Mukherjee is concerned, he is almost through the process."
Lashing out at the NDA and the Trinamool Congress, he said, "These people will not be able to do anything. They should in fact support Pranab Mukherjee."
