Congress leader Amarinder Singh, who will be vacating Patiala (Urban) Assembly seat as he has been elected as MP from Amritsar, today said the decision on who will contest by-election from the constituency will be taken by the party High Command.

Party sources, however, said that Amarinder's wife Preneet Kaur might contest from the Assembly seat. Kaur had lost the Lok Sabha elections from Patiala constituency to AAP candidate D V Gandhi.

"It is too early to announce the candidate from this seat and the decision as to who will contest from this seat would be that of the High Command," Captain Amarinder Singh told reporters here.

"I always wanted to be with the people of Punjab but I was directed by the High Command to contest from Amritsar. Now, that I had to resign as the MLA, elections for my constituency can be announced anytime and we must start campaigning for our party," he added.

Demanding resignation of Partap Singh Bajwa from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Amarinder said the leader should take moral responsibility for the party's defeat in the state.
