With an aim to deliver "speedy justice" to people, Patna (central range) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rajesh Kumar has prescribed five measures for timely completion of investigations, an official order said.
The DIG has fixed schedules for Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Inspectors and Investigating Officers as part of his efforts to ensure time-bound investigation, the order issued yesterday said.
"All police officers will have to comply with the sutras (rules) for effective and speedy action, failing which strict action would be taken against them," Kumar said.
As per the order, the SDPOs and inspectors will have to complete the "supervision report" within 10 days of the institution of cases at the police stations.
If they fail to meet the deadline, the work will have to be carried out by DySP or another officer.
The order also asked the SDPOs and the circle inspectors to submit a "progress report" within 25 days of institution of cases after reviewing the probe developments.
It mandated the filing of reports of injury and post-mortem examinations within 10 days of police complaint.
The officers have also been asked to comply with 'attachment orders' in three days.
Admitting that there might be exceptions, the DIG said, the charge sheet in a case has to be filed within 60 days from the date of police complaint.
If the officers go by the rules, it will benefit common people to a large extent, he said.
"The measures will reduce pendency of cases and change the style of functioning at police stations," Kumar added.
