Unhappy over "sloppy" functioning of the Patna Municipal Corporation in dealing with problem of garbage and outbreak of dengue in the state capital, the Urban Development Department has recommended suspension of the civic body for six months.

"The Urban Department has recommended to the Chief Minister to suspend Patna Municipal Corporation for six months," Urban Development Minister Samrat Chaudhary said today.

Chaudhary said that he had sought reply of the Corporation on six counts that included failure to keep Patna clean by regular removal of dirt and garbage, outbreak of dengue due to "mismanagement" and failure to spend Rs 150 crore meant for improving civic facilities.

"The reply from Corporation on six counts was not satisfactory following which the Department recommended to the Chief Minister to suspend it for six months," the minister said.

The recommendation has been made under provision of the Patna Municipal Act to suspend its operation for a maximum period of six months.

The Municipal Corporation and the state government have been taken to task on several occasions by the Patna High Court in recent days for water logging and failure to clear dirt and garbage.
