In a bid to provide pucca roads to all villages in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked rural development, panchayati raj and works departments to work in coordination for the timely completion of projects under Mukshya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY).

Patnaik had earlier announced MMSY to ensure that small populated villages get good roads and a provision of Rs 150 crore has been made in this year's budget.

Villages having a population of 250 in Integrated Action Plan (IAP) areas and 500 in non-IAP areas are covered under the PMGSY. Those with less population are denied this facility.

The scheme envisages construction of roads in 6,155 villages with a population of more than 100 totalling 20,000 kms of road length in the state, an official release said.

The high level meeting, presided over by Patnaik, was attended by Rural Development minister Badrinarayan Patra, chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati and secretaries of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj departments.
