Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today suspended two police officers for negligence of duty while probing an incident of acid attack on a woman in Tirtol area of Jagatsinghpur district eight years ago.
The two officers suspended were the then DSP R K Jena, who is now sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in Nabarangpur and inspector Sankarsan Dalai, now posted in Balasore, an official in the chief minister's office said.
The chief minister has directed the director general of police (DGO) to immediately initiate disciplinary proceedings against the two, the official said.

Acid was thrown on a woman in Tirtol area in 2009 but due to negligence on part of the police, the accused persons were not caught and the case was closed.
However, the case was reopened after the victim woman recently met the chief minister.
The main accused and his accomplice were arrested recently, the statement said.
Patnaik also directed the police chief to review the progress of probe into various complaints by women and children in different police stations and submit a report within 15 days, the official said in a statement.
