Patrol vessel joins Coast Guard Eastern region

Offshore patrol vessel Shaunak has joined the Eastern Region fleet, the Coast Guard said today.

The 105-metre long vessel can travel upto a speed of 23 knots per hour. It is commanded by Deputy Inspector General T Shashi Kumar and manned by 14 officers.

The induction of the vessel in Coast Guard Eastern region would give a fillip to the maritime protection in the Eastern coast, particularly to states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, a release said.

The vessel was commissioned by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu last month and a ceremonial reception was organised at the Chennai Port Trust following its commissioning in Goa, it said.
 

ADGP, Coastal Security Group, C Sylendra Babu presided over the function in which senior officials from Coast Guard Eastern region also participated.
