Farmer Dinesh Malviya had approached Patwari Gopal Chourasia with an application to transfer the land lease of his ancestral 3.5 acre land in his name sometime back, Lokayukta's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) O P Sagoria told reporters.

The land was situated in Jalwa village of Ghatia tehsil where the Patwari was posted.

The Patwari said that it was not possible as per rules and later demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh from him for the job.

Later, the amount was negotiated to Rs 20,000 following which the farmer tipped-off the Lokayukta sleuths.

The Lokayukta laid a trap and then asked him to pay Rs 10,000 as first installment following which the Patwari was caught here.

He was later released on a bail and bond of Rs 25,000.
