Pb cabinet condoles death of veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar

The Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, today observed one minute of silence as a mark of respect to veteran journalist and noted

writer Kuldip Nayar (95), who passed away in Delhi.

The cabinet described Nayar as a multifaceted personality, who served in different capacities as a diplomat and parliamentarian, an official release said here.

Besides being a fine human being, he was an erudite author, who penned several articles on a wide spectrum of Indian and international topics, including politics and current affairs, in esteemed columns of leading newspapers and magazines, the cabinet noted.

Recalling his remarkable services as a son of Punjab, the cabinet said Nayar would be remembered by one and all for his efforts in strengthening Indo-Pak ties, besides fostering love, peace, brotherhood and amity between the people of both nations.

 

The cabinet shared its heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, relations and friends, the release said.

Nayar, a fierce proponent of press freedom and civil liberties, died in the early hours of the day at the Escorts hospital in Delhi. He was suffering from pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital five days back.
