Pb CEO takes strong note of stoning of Sukhbir's cavalcade

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer V K Singh today took strong note of the incident in which stones were hurled at the cavalcade of SAD president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal during campaigning and said such incidents will not be allowed to happen again in the poll-bound state.

"It will not be tolerated and will not be allowed to happen. Appropriate action will be taken in connection with this incident," Singh said here while addressing media.

Besides, Punjab police said adequate security will be provided to VVIPs in the coming polls.

The CEO was asked to respond on the incident in which stones were hurled at cavalcade of Sukhbir Badal.
 

Singh appealed to voters to maintain peace and avoid indulging in such incidents in future.

"In somebody is angry, then he should express his emotions by pressing button of EVM during elections," he quipped, adding throwing stones was not acceptable.

Four Akali supporters were injured and a police vehicle was damaged when a group of people threw stones at the cavalcade of Shiromani Akali Dal president at Kandhwala Hazir Khan village in his constituency, Jalalabad in Fazilka district yesterday.

Sukhbir escaped unhurt in the attack that took place last night.

Singh also appealed to political parties not to instigate voters.

SAD yesterday blamed Aam Aadmi Party for instigating people against Akalis.

Meanwhile, Punjab Additional Director General of Police(ADGP) V K Bhawra said one person identified as Harpreet Singh has been arrested in this connection while remaining accused were yet to be identified.

He said an FIR against 20 people under relevant sections of IPC and Prevention of Damage to the public and private property Act was lodged on the complaint of police.

When asked what steps are being taken by the police in the wake of this incident, Bhawra who is also a nodal office for Punjab elections, said adequate security will be provided to the VVIPs in coming polls.

He said, "today SSP Fazilka visited the areas in advance where Sukhbir Badal was scheduled to visit."

Meanwhile, to a query, an election officer today said the Punjab CEO office has directed the state transport body Pepsu Road Transport Corporation to remove the photos of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal from the buses.

Similarly, photos of ministers should also be removed from the government portals, the officer said.
