Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today ordered dismissal of Jalandhar's Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Jugraj Singh from service after videos of him purportedly demanding a bribe from a shopkeeper went viral on the social media.

According to a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office, Amarinder Singh had taken a serious note of the videos shot by the shopkeeper, Bikker Singh, on July 11 and had directed the agriculture department to investigate it.

"The videos, uploaded on the social media on July 16 and shared widely, clearly showed the CAO demanding a bribe from Bikker Singh," the spokesperson said here this evening.

"The agriculture department contacted the shopkeeper through the Deputy Commissioner and he submitted an affidavit on July 19, reiterating his allegations.

"The department submitted its report to the chief minister, who also holds the agriculture portfolio, and he immediately ordered Jugraj Singh's dismissal from service," he said.

Reiterating his commitment to zero tolerance towards corruption, the chief minister warned officials against indulging in graft and said similar stern action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
