Extending support to the agitating farmers, the Punjab unit of Congress today held a demonstration and blocked road traffic here over the slow purchase of paddy.

Congress activists led by PPCC General Secretary Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa blocked traffic movement for five hours and raised slogans against the SAD-BJP government in Punjab.

The government should ensure lifting of paddy from mandis and payment of Minimum Support Price (MSP) to growers, Bajwa said.

Despite assurances by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, farmers were being exploited in the state as they were not getting MSP for their produce and had to wait for many days before their stocks were cleared, the Congress leader said.
