Congress workers today staged a demonstration against the "deteriorating law and order situation" in Punjab and tried to enter the mini secretariat here but were stopped by police who used water canons and mild force to disperse them.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Charanjit Singh Channi leader also participated in the protest.
The party workers were going to offer bangles to the Ludhiana Police Commissioner to be passed on to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the state BJP chief, Congress MP Ravneet Bittu, who led the protest, said.

Elaborate arrangements were made to foil their attempt to enter the main gate of the mini secretariat where the office of the Police Commissioner is situated, police said, adding water canons and mild force were used on the protesters
Bittu and some other leaders were rounded up and were let off after some time, they said.
"There is no rule of law in Punjab...There is total anarchy. Gangsters and mafias are ruling the roost," Channi alleged and claimed that common people are feeling insecure.
