The Punjab government said all the state-run educational institutions have been directed not to charge any money from Scheduled Caste (SC) students for admission in accordance with the rules of the post-metric scholarship scheme.

The decision was taken to ensure that SC students did not come across any hurdle in completing education, an official spokesman said.

A direction in this regard has been issued to all the government educational institutions in the state, he said, adding that the rule will come into effect from the current academic year.

Those institutions which fail to implement the rule will not be eligible for tax exemption under the post-metric scholarship scheme, he added.
