The Punjab government has decided to give education allowance to the children of labourers registered under Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The education allowance (books and stationery) would be to the tune of Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 each.
A decision in this effect was taken in a meeting of Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, presided over by Punjab Labour Minister Chunni Lal Bhagat, an official spokesman said today.

It was also decided that besides education allowance, children of registered labourers' studying in class I to XII would also be given uniform allowance of Rs 800-1000 each.
The government has also decided to distribute bicycles to such beneficiary students, studying in class IX to XII.
