Pb govt asks depts to follow Persons with Disabilities Act

The Punjab government has asked all its departments to follow the provisions of Persons with Disabilities Act 1995 and reserve one per cent of the teaching posts for persons with disabilities.

The identified teaching posts in the faculties and colleges of various Universities have to be reserved in accordance to the provisions of Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act 1995, a spokesperson of Social Security Department today said.

He said that instructions to identify such posts have been issued to all the departments and they have been directed to comply with it.

It has also been told to the departments that denial of appointment to the visually challenged persons in the faculties and colleges of various Universities in the identified posts will be considered as violation of their Fundamental Rights guaranteed in Constitution, the spokesperson said.
