Pb govt tells officials not to use plastic flags on I-Day

The Punjab government today directed officials not to use plastic flags during Independence Day functions as it "affects the dignity" of the tricolour.

The government has issued strict directions to all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and SDMs to maintain the dignity of the national flag in the state, an official release said here today.

All the authorities concerned have been asked to follow the Flag Code, it said.

Authorities in Punjab have been directed not to use plastic flags as this affects the "dignity of the flag", it said.

Also plastic, not being biodegradable, is harmful to the atmosphere, the release said.
