Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes has sought a report on "derogatory and malicious remarks" shown during a programme telecast on a private channel.

"It is a very serious issue which has hurt religious sentiments of people," Commission chairman Rajesh Bagha said adding that "the additional director general of police (crime) has been asked to submit a report within fifteen days".

Those who make such heinous mistakes must be brought to book, so that no one could think of taking such step to disrupt social and religious harmony in the society, he said.

A youth was injured during a protest of Dalit organisations in Hoshiarpur yesterday.

The Phagwara Police yesterday registered a case against the private TV channel under Section 295A of the IPC (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

Amarjit Singh, a resident of Khera village in Phagwara, had lodged a complaint with the police against the TV channel.
