Personal computer shipments in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) declined by 10 per cent to 19.5 million units in the first quarter this year, preliminary results by Gartner showed today.
Such shipments in the region stood at 21.6 million units in the same period last year.
Gartner said while decline in EMEA PC market was similar to the 9.6 per cent fall worldwide, there were some differences in the region.

"Some PC vendors struggled to manage inventory and profitability in these diverse and rapidly shifting conditions," said Isabelle Durand principal analyst at Gartner.
In the first quarter of 2016, HP performed better in EMEA region than it did worldwide. It increased market share lead despite 2.5 per cent decline in shipment, while Lenovo saw decline in its market share.
HP retained the top position with 22.4 per cent market share followed by Lenovo with 18.8 per cent.
Asus, ranked third, was the only vendor in the top five EMEA ranking to increase its shipments, growing 3.9 per cent in the first quarter of 2016. Dell stood at fourth position followed by Acer Group.
Gartner said data includes desk-based PCs, notebook PCs and ultramobile premium and is based on a preliminary study. Final estimates will be subject to change.
"Although mainstream professional PCs suffered low demand in the first quarter of 2016, there was continued growth in demand for thin and light notebooks with detachable keyboards -- in both the business and consumer segments," Gartner added.
