Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shaharyar Khan today said that there could be major changes in the national side after the recent debacle in Bangladesh where they suffered a humiliating whitewash in the ODI and T20 International series.
Talking to the media during the inauguration ceremony of a ground in Islamabad, Khan also admitted that the current system in Pakistan cricket was flawed.
"There is a possibility of major changes in the team after the Bangladesh tour," Khan said when asked about the increasing criticism on the Board and team after the losses in Bangladesh.
Pakistan suffered a 0-3 ODI series whitewash and also lost their lone T20 International match against Bangladesh.
"We are disturbed and upset at what has happened. Winning and losing is part of sport but the way we lost to Bangladesh in the one-day matches and T20 is unacceptable," he said.
Khan said while it was true the national team was undergoing changes particularly in the one-day format but it still did not justify the lame performances against Bangladesh.
The PCB chief said there were many issues afflicting the team and Pakistan cricket but fitness, coaching and organizational weakness were key factors among these.
Hinting at a change of guard, he said that the senior players have had their time with the team and now it was time for new players to replace them.
"The senior players have given their best for Pakistan and it is time to move on," Khan said, adding if any changes were to be made it would not involve rolling back the clock.
Pakistan s cricket fraternity, including former captain Imran Khan have expressed anguish over the losses to Bangladesh and called for measures to improve things.
Another former captain Javed Miandad has described the recent defeats as the darkest day in Pakistan cricket history. Rameez Raja, also a former skipper, has said that Pakistan cricket had reached its lowest point.
Pakistan and Bangladesh will now square off in a two-match Test series which starts in Khulna from April 28.
