The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has promised financial incentives and best possible facilities for its players ahead of the World Cup in 2015.
PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi met with the players during the national summer training camp in Lahore today and described them as national assets.
Pakistani cricketers are national assets which must be looked after, groomed and nurtured, Sethi said.
Flanked by former greats like Zaheer Abbas, Moin Khan, Mohammad Akram and Sarfraz Nawaz who are working with the players in the month-long camp, Sethi said that the nation expected the players to perform to their best.
"You all are national assets. As long as I am Chairman, I will try and provide you with the best training facilities and incentives. The PCB has hired the best coaching staff from here and abroad [for the benefit of the team]," he said and added similarly the board also expected the players to perform like true professionals.
Muhammad Akram who is head coach of the national cricket academy and is supervising the camp also earned praise from the PCB Chairman.
"He has a carte blanche from me to hire anyone he finds appropriate for this camp for as long as he wants to improve the fitness and skills of the players for the rigours of the upcoming season", he said.
"The Board shall make sure that the players are taken care of economically. The pay scales have vastly improved in my time. And not just the present but past cricketers too are being looked after through increase in pensions and benefits.
"At the same time, the Board is also making a concerted effort to improve opportunities for players to showcase their talent at home and abroad in various leagues," he added.
Pakistan captain, Misbah-ul-Haq said the players had enjoyed the workout in the camp and termed it as the best ever he had attended.
Akram has laid special emphasis on physical fitness in the camp and Misbah acknowledged that it would prove beneficial to the players.
"Improvement in fitness and skills is quite tangible, and this would stand us in good stead in the coming season," Misbah added.
