The Press Council of India has sought a report from the Arunachal Pradesh government over reported summoning of the editor and publisher of an English daily regarding a complaint filed by a BJP leader.
A statement issued by the PCI said a case was registered against the newspaper on the direction of metropolitan magistrate, Itanagar, following the complaint filed by the BJP state general secretary.
The release, however, failed to specify the reason for filling the case or name the complainant.
"PCI chairman has noted with concern reports of summoning the editor and publisher of 'Dawnlit Post' by the Itanagar Police in Arunachal Pradesh...Taking suo-moto cognisance of the matter, a report on the facts of the case has been called along with a written reply from the government of Arunachal Pradesh," the statement added.
