The Anti-Corruption Bureau today arrested an official of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12 lakh from a builder for issuing completion certificate.

Rajendra Sopan Shirke, the accused, was caught red- handed this evening at his office, the ACB said.

Shirke, who acted as stenographer to the commissioner, had demanded Rs 12 lakh from the complainant to forward a file for completion certificate for a building project, said an ACB official.

The complainant was building a housing project comprising eleven high-rise buildings in Thergaon near Pimpri, the ACB officer said.

While he had obtained completion certificate for seven buildings, the same was awaited for remaining ones.
