A Pimpri-Chinchwad civic body official who allegedly demanded an alcohol bottle and money as bribe from a worker to sanction his medical leave was today arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Tanaji Date (50), working as an assistant health officer with the E-Ward office of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), had demanded a whisky bottle and Rs 10,000 from a worker for sanctioning his medical leave, said an ACB official.

Date was arrested from outside the gate of PCMC office building, the official said.

The complainant worked at E-Ward office in Bhosari as a cleaning worker and was on medical leave for a few months, he said.

Date had sanctioned complainant's leave and allowed him to resume duty for which he allegedly demanded a whisky bottle and Rs 10,000 as bribe, the official said.

The worker then approached ACB and lodged complaint against the assistant health officer, the official said.

A trap was laid outside the PCMC building, where he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000, the official added.
