Amid continuing tension over the death of a Sikh youth in a clash with policemen here, National Conference today accused the PDP-BJP ruling coalition of disrupting communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.

"People continue to suffer under this regime. The PDP-BJP coalition has polarised the situation in the state and the recent incident in Jammu in which a youth was killed is an example of this," NC general secretary Ali Mohammed Sagar said.

"This government has divided people in the name of religion and region. They are trying to disrupt the communal harmony in the state which was well-preserved for decades," the NC leader said.

He accused the government of playing "crude joke" on those affected by the last year's floods by distributing cheques of mere Rs 37 among them.

He also claimed that the new government had completely failed in its first 100 days in power.

On the issuance of passport to Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the NC general secretary said passport authorities must take final call on the issue after all the formalities are fulfilled.
