Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today boycotted proceedings of the Legislative Council for the remaining Budget session, after its members alleged that National Conference (NC) member Mustafa Kamal, had raised aspersions over their presence in the Upper House and called for a Privilege Motion in this regard.

Pointing to a newspaper report published in an English daily here today, PDP members said that Kamal had raised questions over their presence in the Legislative Council after the party had boycotted proceedings of the Legislative Assembly earlier this month, and urged Chairman Amrit Malhotra to move a Privilege Motion.

The party members also accused Kamal of using derogatory language against their leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

As soon as the House assembled, PDP members including Sayed Asgar Ali, Mohammad Ashraf Mir and Yashpal Sharma protested against the remarks of Kamal and urged upon the Chairman to take a decision in this regard. They also stressed on boycotting proceedings, if their demand was not adhered to.

"He has raised aspersions on our party," Asgar Ali said while demanding a Privilege Motion to be moved against Kamal.

"Evidence is in front of you. If your decision doesn't come, we will boycott the House," he added.

Malhotra told them that they can discuss the issue after Question Hour, but PDP members persisted with their demand.
