Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today expelled its senior leader and MLA Syed Bashir Ahmad from the party on charges of indulging in anti-party activities.

"Ahmad, MLA from Rajpora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, has been expelled from the basic membership of PDP for indulging in anti-party activities," a PDP spokesman said.

He said the party's Disciplinary Action Committee headed by Abdul Rehman Veeri took the decision against Ahmad in view of several complaints that he was working against the party's interest.

Ahmad was not happy with the party leadership which denied ticket from Rajpora, which he had represented since 2002, and nominated Haseeb Drabu, an economist from there.

Meanwhile, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has nominated Vikramadatiya Singh, who recently joined the party, and Drabu as members of the party's Political Affairs Committee - the party's top decision making body.
