"Bringing the (Food Security) Bill alone won't help. The entire (PDS) system needs to be revamped," he told reporters at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini near here.
"Government should have enough stock of wheat, rice and maize that would suffice for a year," he said.
The chief minister also said godowns should be raised at Central, regional, district and panchayat levels to facilitate foodgrain storage.
As part of the food security initiative, Chhattisgarh government provides 35 kg rice per family per month to 32.76 lakh BPL families, he said.
The government has raised the number of fair price shops to 10,465, out of which 4,058 are governed by the cooperative sector, 4,043 by gram panchayats and 2,278 by women self help groups (SHGs).
