President Pranab Mukherjee today said peace and harmony are ultimate objectives of our civilisation and progress.

Addressing a programme organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, an organisation working for global harmony, Mukherjee said happiness and peace are closely interlinked in today's world.

"The basic objective of the organisation (Brahma Kumaris) is to ensure peace, harmony, cordiality between man to man, woman to woman, between man and woman as brothers and sisters.

"On the whole, this is the ultimate objective of our civilisation, of our progress, of our advancement," he said.

Mukherjee said, "No doubt we want economic growth, technological development, scientific pursuit of knowledge but at the end everything comes to a point that we want to have happiness."

The president said happiness of people and mankind is now recognised all over the world and as a result the international organisation comes out with 'World's Happiness Index' to know where happiness is being pursued.

"Happiness and peace are closely interlinked, one cannot survive without the other," he said during the felicitation ceremony for the president organised by the Brahma Kumaris.
