A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed and another seriously injured when a speeding private bus knocked them down at Kurichi here, sparking violent protests.
The\e incident took place when the deceased Rayappan was attempted to cross the road, and the speeding bus dashed against him, resulting in his death.
Another pedestrian was also seriously injured, police said.
The injured has been admitted to the Government hospital, they said.
Meanwhile, a section of the public turned violent and pelted stoned at the bus, damaging a portion of it.
The protesters squatted on the road, alleging that buses were plying at high speed without.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the crowd, who withdrew their agitation, police added.
