Penalty for throwing garbage at public places will be imposed on individuals, households as well big and small commercial establishments from the end of this month, said PMC Commissioner Abhishek Singh.

Individuals and households caught throwing garbage at public places would be fined Rs 100 while it would be Rs 200 for shops and Rs 500 for big shops and establishments like restaurants, PMC Commissioner Abhishek Singh said.

The decision of imposing penalty was taken as per provisions of the Bihar Municipal Act and the drive would start by operationalising a task force by end of January, Singh said.

The drive would be important considering the fact that Patna is among one of the dirtiest cities of the country.

The Commissioner said that around 1000 steel dustbins would be purchased soon for placing them at public places where garbage and wastes could be thrown.

Singh said the objective was to bring a behavioural change in citizens and maintain high degree of cleanness in the capital town as it was during the 350th Prakash Parva that ended on January 5.

In order to carry out the drive, it was decided to retain 350 of the 800 additional workers who had been engaged to maintain cleanness in the city during the Prakash Parva from December 25 to January 5 to celebrate birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru.
