Pension for poor needy journalists increased in TN

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today hiked the monthly pension and family pension for poor and needy journalists and their families.

In an announcement in the state Assembly, she said the pension for indigent journalsits would be increased to Rs.8000 from the present Rs.7,500. For family pensioners, it would be Rs.4,750 from the present Rs.4,500, she said.

She also recalled how she had increased pension for indigent journalists substantially in the past four years of her regime. In 2011, pension was increased from Rs.5,000 to Rs.6,000 and in 2013 it was further revised to Rs.7,500.

Similarly, for family pensioners, it was hiked to Rs 3,000 from Rs.2,500 in 2011 and in 2013 it was hiked to Rs.4,500, she said.
