Lauding the role of the Election Commission, the security and the police forces in ensuring "free and fair" polls, CPI(M) leadership today said that people of the state have already said 'no' to the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC regime in Bengal.
"There have been certain attempts to unleash terror and rig few booths of certain constituencies. But people along with the security forces have resisted it. We salute the role of the Election Commission, security forces and police forces in ensuring free and fair polls," CPI(M) politburo member Mohammed Salim said.
"People have resisted the attempts of violence that TMC had tried to unleash, although in certain places they succeeded. Actually TMC very well knows that the mandate is against them that is why they are using violence and intimidation as tools," Salim said.

"The days of TMC in Bengal are numbered. After the fifth phase of polls, we can easily say that people have already said a big no to the TMC regime. The people have voted and have ensured that Mamata Banerjee doesn't enter the state Assembly," Salim said.
The poll panel ordered filing of an FIR against sitting Trinamool Congress MLA and party candidate Sonali Guha after she was caught on camera allegedly ordering party workers to beat up CPI-M polling agents in her Satgachia constituency.
While reacting to the incident, Salim said, "the incident shows the mindset of TMC, the mindset of violence and intimidation. But the anti-TMC wave is so strong that people can't be cowed down by those threats."
A heavy turnout of over 72 per cent was registered till 3 PM today in the fifth and penultimate phase of Assembly polls in the state, which saw sporadic incidents of violence that left seven people injured.
In South 24 Parganas, six persons were injured in poll violence while one injury was reported from Hooghly.
