: People of Nadupatti and Kiriyampatti villages in the district hoisted black flags atop their houses today to protest official 'indifference' to preventing frequent clashes between Scheduled Castes and Vanniyars in the two villages.

The clashes had erupted over SC youths allegedly teasing some women belonging to the Vanniyar caste. Frequent heated arguments also used to break out over a common bathroom facility for the two villages, officials said.

They said no voter from both villagers exercised their franchise till 10:30 AM and demanded that the cases registered against them be withdrawn.

Cases had been registered against 50 persons in Nadupatti village, while 37 in kariyampatti are facing criminal cases in connection with clashes, officials said.

They said 10 persons from Kariyampatti villagewho cast their votes after a lot of persuasion and they had voted now.
