Residents of several villages in Murbad town here have reported hearing a mysterious "tremor- like" sound, weeks after some people in neighbouring Palghar district had a similar experience.
People in Mazgaon, Kanhale, Bangalpada, Tane villages have told the district authorities that they have been hearing an "unusual" sound emanating from the ground for the last one week.
Murbad Tehsildar Sarjerao Mhaske Patil said he along with a local police team visited the villages on receiving information in this regard.
Patil said many villagers told him they heard a "peculiar" sound on September 4 and a few times again last week.
"We have written to geological experts in Nagpur and sought their help. We have requested to them conduct a survey," he said.
The sound was mainly heard in the area surrounding Padala, an earthen dam in the taluka.
