Underlining the need to accord top priority to people's welfare, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today asked Panchayati Raj officials to undertake frequent tours of various areas and resolve "minor" problems on the spot.
"People should not have to come to Dehradun for getting minor problems resolved. These problems should be looked into by officers during their tours which should be more frequent," the Governor said at a meeting with officials of the Panchayati Raj department.
"Peoples' welfare should be given top priority. By establishing a transparent, honest, sensitive and efficient system, the confidence of the people in the administration could be increased," he said.
Stressing on digitisation of land records and improvement in the system to deal with public complaints, he said the timeframe for redressing people's complaints online on the Samadhan portal should be reduced from 30 days to 20 days.
"Digitisation of ration cards should be done under food security and pensions and scholarships under social security made online and linked to Aadhaar number.
"Public awareness programmes should be launched to educate people about checking and controlling forest fires, he said adding these programmes can begin even from schools," an official release quoted the Governor as saying.
He said action must be taken at the district level to prevent overloading and drunken driving.
Paul also sought an action plan on the implementation of 'Gramodaya se Bharat Uday' conceived by the Centre for states to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
