The animal rights group People for Animals (PFA) today appealed to the people of Mizoram to kill animals, to be used for community feasts, only with guns during during Christmas.
In an appeal made through the media including local television channels, the PFA asked the people to be merciful to the animals while killing them for community feasts.
"Killing animals with guns is the most merciful way as the animals met instant death," the PFA said, adding that the traditional way of butchering was cruel causing sufferings for a longer period.
Hundreds of animals including mithun, cattle, pigs and chicken would be slaughtered during the Christmas and New Year festivities across the state for preparation of feasts.
