Pepper weakens in lacklustre trade

Black pepper weakened further in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today on lower demand from stockists and retailers amid subdued export offtake.

Rest all other spices including ginger and copra ruled stable in the absence of any major buying.

Black pepper eased by Rs 10/10 per kg to Rs 440/530 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 450/540.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 440/530 (450/540), Ginger unbleached (per kg) 135 (135), Copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 12,000 (12,000), Copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 11,800 (11,800), Copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,000 (17,000), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 14,000 (14,000).
