Perec named event ambassador of TCS World 10K run

The legendary French track and field sprinter Marie-Jose Perec has been named the international event ambassador for this year's TCS World 10K run, to be held here on May 18.

"I look forward to standing at the start line of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru with all the enthusiastic runners, to cheer them on and wait at the finish line to celebrate their sense of accomplishments. Namaste India, let's get our feet on the street," she told in a statement.

"Running has the unique ability to build a strong sense of community," she added.

A formidable force, Perec has won three Olympic gold medals and is the first-ever athlete to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 400-metre dash between the years.
 

Marie will be seen cheering for city runners on May 17.

Fondly, known as 'La Gazelle', thanks to her swift movements across on the track and field, Perec is known as one of the best female runners across the world.

Joint Managing Director of Procam International Vivek Singh said Perec has not only made her mark on-field, but also worked for peace.

"Being an athlete, who has not only made her mark on-field but has also championed the cause of peace off it," he said.

Perec is the epitome of excellence and the quintessential role model for every runner, Singh said.

With a series of accolades that include three Olympic golds, two gold medals at the World Championships and two yellow metals at the European Championships, the French athlete is regarded as a sporting phenomenon globally.

After her retirement in 2004, Perec has been actively involved in bringing about social change through peace, associating with the 'Champions for Peace' club alongside more than 70 elite athletes committed to promoting peace in the world through sports, created by the Monaco based organisation -- Peace and Sport.
