Karnataka Forests Minister and district-in-charge B Ramanath Rai has said he would take up with the government the issue of setting up a permanent rehabilitation centre for endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada district.
A permanent rehabilitation centre for the victims should be set up through the Dakshina Kannada district endosulfan victims multipurpose co-operative society, he said presiding over a meeting on endosulfan rehabilitation here on Saturday, an official release said here today.
The co-operative society should work more responsibly for the welfare endosulfan victims and their families, he said.

Though there was provision to provide primary education to endosulfan victims at their homes through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, no such facility was being extended to them for pursuing higher education. The matter would also be taken up with the government, he said.
The Society President Gangarathna Vasanth said the main objective of setting up a multipurpose cooperative society was rehabilitation of endosulfan victims. The society would also focus on healthcare, education, self-employment, care centres and distribution of various benefits of the rehabilitation scheme, he said.
