Madras High Court today permitted holding of a cultural dance programme as part of a temple festival in Namakkal district, but laid down an eight-point condition to ensure that the event was obscene-free.
"There should not be obscene dance and vulgar dialogues, Justice M M Sundresh ordered, permitting the organisers of Thondikaradu Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Theedal in Thiruchengode town.
Police could not reject requests on mere apprehensions. There is absolutely no material before this court to hold that there will be a law and order problem in the event of permission being granted, the judge said.

The organisers wanted to hold the function on October 31, but police refused permission.
"The function should not affect either religious or communal harmony and shall be conducted without any discrimination based on caste", the judge said.
He made it clear that even if any one of these conditions is violated, police were at liberty to take necessary action and stop such performance. Police are entitled to stop the dance programme, if it exceeds beyond the permitted time, too, he said.
