People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has urged Keralites to go "egg-free" this Easter.

To highlight the sufferings of hens and offer creulty-free alternatives for holidays, the PETA members staged a demonstration in the city today.

Confined to cages and holding signs that read, "Chickens Suffer for Eggs - Have a Vegan Easter", PETA India volunteers protested the intensive confinement of hens on egg factory farms.

"Egg production is not only cruel but also entirely unnecessary because it's easy to cook without eggs. And because they are loaded with cholesterol and saturated fat, eggs are as bad for your health as they are for hens' well-being,"says PETA India nutritionist Bhuvaneshwari Gupta.
