The 33-year-old Libertines and Babyshambles frontman had been at the Cabin in Chiang Mai for three weeks undergoing treatment for heroin and crack cocaine addiction, reported Independent online.

Alastair Mordey, director of the 7,000 pounds a month rehab centre, said, "Pete was discharged today for therapeutic reasons. It is important to maintain the integrity of the treatment programme for the other clients to have a good chance of recovery. Pete understands this and therefore the reasons behind why we have asked him to leave."

He added that the Cabin's "parting with Pete is amicable" and expressed his disappointment at seeing him leave.

The Cabin is one of Asia's most prestigious drug and alcohol treatment centres, using a mixture of yoga, cognitive behavioural and other therapies to treat patients.

"We hope some of the things he has learnt here will help him in the future and look forward to the day when Pete decides to consider recovery again," Mordey said.

The former boyfriend of model Kate Moss has been in rehab previously in 2003, 2006 and 2007.
