The Madras High Court today adjourned to next week the decision on the maintainability of a petition filed by one Abdul Rahim seeking a direction to jail authorities for permitting him to meet "Police" Fakruddin, arrested last month in connection with the murder of a BJP functionary.

Rahim said he was denied permission by jail authorities to meet his friend stating that only "blood relatives" were allowed to meet a detenu.

Rahim in his petition contended that the denial would tantamount to infringement of fundamental right to liberty and equality.

A division Bench comprising Justice S Rajeswaran and Justice P N Prakash adjourned the matter to next week to decide its maintainability.

The High Court had on November 19 dismissed a HCP filed by Rahim seeking directions to state Home Secretary, DGP and Superintendent of Police-CBCID (Special Investigation Team) to produce Fakruddin before the court.
