State-run Power Grid Corp, Sterlite, Adani, Reliance Power Transmission and Kalpataru have entered the fray for Rs 500 crore transmission project in the North.

Under the Northern Region System Strengthening Scheme, NRSS-XXXVI, the 400 kV link between Rishikesh and Koteshwar will improve reliability and power supply to Uttarakhand.

"PGCIL, Sterlite, Adani, Essel, Reliance Power Transmission and Kalpataru have qualified technical bids for the NRSS XXXVI transmission project," a source said.

"Today is the last day for submitting financial bids for the project by the six eligible bidders on technical grounds. The financial bids are likely to be opened next week," the source said.

Rural Electrification Corp subsidiary REC Transmission Projects Company Ltd is conducting the tariff based bidding of this project.

The NRSS project will also obviate the power transfer constraint on 400 kV Roorkee-Muzaffarnagar line during low hydro generation condition.

This link will provide additional outlet from Tehri/ Koteshwar generation complex and independent feed for providing reliable and quality power supply to Rishikesh area.

The project also include loop in loop out (LILO) of one circuit of 400 kV Sikar-Neemrana line at Babai; Babai-Bhiwani line and four bays at 400 kV Babai (Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd) substation.

Babai 400/220 kV substation of RRVPNL is a under construction substation associated with the transmission system for Suratgarh Super Critical Thermal Power Station (2x660MW) and shall be connected to Suratgarh through 400kV line.

The 400 kV Sikar-Neemrana Powergrid line is crossing Babai substation at a distance of about one kilometer. The proposal of LILO of one circuit of Sikar-Neemrana 400kV line at Babai would be helpful for enhancing the reliability of power supply. The proposed LILO would increase the flexibility in this area.
