A court today extended till June 21 the judicial remand of 11 people accused in the April 13 sectarian clash in Phagwara.

The accused were produced before the judicial magistrate here through video conference from Modern Jail in Kapurthala, Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said.

Teja heads a three-member special investigation team (SIT) probing the clash.

Six members of right-wing Hindu outfits and five Dalit activists were arrested in connection with the violence over fixing a board carrying Dalit icon B R Ambedkar's picture at a road intersection here.

The Dalit group also wanted the intersection, Gol Chowk on National Highway-1, renamed Samvidhan (Constitution)Chowk.

The other group opposed it, triggering violence that left one man dead and three injured.

There was tension in the town for a month.

Later, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh gave in-principle approval for the remaining of the intersection.
