Effluent treatment plant in the proposed Pharma City near here will be of international standards and ensure "zero discharge levels", Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao said today.

The Minister for Industries, IT, Mining, Municipal Administration and NRI Affairs met representatives of industrial wastewater treatment companies here and discussed setting up of common effluent treatment plants for Pharma City and other industrial parks in the state.

According to an official release, apart from senior government officials, representatives from Sembcorp of Singapore, GE Water USA, Tahal Amsterdam and other national and international companies attended the meet.

Rao said the effluent treatment plant that would be set up in Pharma City will be built at par with international standards and ensure "zero discharge levels".

The state government officials had earlier visited effluent treatment plants set up in pharma cities in China, Singapore and Malaysia to see how they work.

The Hyderabad Pharma City, proposed on 12,500 acres of land in adjoining Rangareddy and Mahbubnagar districts, will also be built as per global standards, the minister added.

Rao said apart from new industrial parks, steps are being taken to ensure that all industrial estates in the state are brought to zero discharge standards.

As per direction of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the government is in discussion with various companies to ensure reduction of industrial pollution, he said.

Rao wanted the companies to come up with new economic models to ensure lesser financial burden on the state exchequer.
