PhD student shot at in AMU campus

Mohammad Noor Ain, a student in department of history, was seriously injured when he was shot at last night as he was coming out of a university building in the campus, they said.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection, police said.

The victim, hailing from eastern UP, was rushed to casualty department at the Medical College here, where he was stated to be out of danger, they said.

About two hours after the incident, a group of angry students gathered in front of the Medical College demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, they said, adding, the students were pacified by police and university authorities.

 

In a similar incident on September 15, an undergraduate student residing at the Sir Ziauddin Hall was shot at and seriously injured in front of the V M Hall, police said.

During the past three days, University authorities have conducted searches for illicit firearms in different hostels.

Three country-made firearms and some cartridges have been recovered in these raids, according to an AMU spokesperson.

Mohammad's name had figured in cases pertaining to last year's campus clashes, police said.

After yesterday night's incident, security in the campus has been further tightened.
